Communication Breakdowns

You don’t have to keep having the same argument. Learn how to communicate, navigate conflict, and understand each other differently.

Most couples have conflict. The problem is not necessarily that you disagree, but what happens when you do. If conversations regularly turn into criticism, defensiveness, shutting down, or feeling misunderstood, it can become easy to lose sight of the fact that you’re on the same team. Over time, the same arguments can leave both partners feeling frustrated, disconnected, and unsure how to communicate differently.

In therapy, we’ll look beyond the individual arguments to understand the patterns that keep the two of you stuck. Using the Gottman Method and other evidence-based approaches, I’ll help you identify your conflict cycle and learn practical tools for communicating your needs, listening with greater understanding, managing difficult conversations, and repairing after conflict. This isn’t about deciding who is right or wrong. It’s about learning how to approach one another differently when things get hard.

The goal is not to eliminate conflict from your relationship. It’s to help you feel more confident navigating it together. With practice, you can learn to have difficult conversations without escalating, understand what is underneath the conflict, and find ways to compromise and repair that leave both partners feeling heard and respected.
